The harmonious Syrah and Mourvèdre blend evoke aromas of wild blueberry, stewed boysenberries, fresh potting soil and dried sage brush. A balanced foundation provides notes of grilled plum, waxed leather, pink peppercorn and Chanterelle mushroom. Rustic tannins and a soft minerality reminiscent of granite underlay a savory, lasting finish.

Generous aromas of black raspberry jam are tinged in smoked meats on the nose of this blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. There's a firm tannic edge to the tip of the sip, which then descends into rounded black plum and blueberry flavors. —Matt Kettmann
